Gearhouse SA (Pty) Ltd has been an integral part of the operations of uShaka Marine World since 2004.
Not only were they proud to be the technical supplier to the prestigious opening of Africa's largest Marine Park but have been providing technical services under a preferred supplier agreement for the last 5 and a half years.
In addition, Gearhouse' sister company System Solutions have been awarded sought-after installation contracts at the complex such as the upgrading of the dolphin
stadium in 2007 - with a state of the art digital control system, PA and Lighthouse LED screen - and a networked evacuation system in 2010 that can handle not only emergencies,
but aids the marketing and entertainment aspects of the park as well - versatility that is always appreciated by the end client!
In February 2010 IVTM, another company operating under the Gearhouse banner, sought to expand it's operations in KZN by taking over the operation and maintenance of the dolphin and seal stadia,
as well as the penguin rookery for the South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) at uShaka. INHOUSE Venue Technical Management (IVTM) was formed to cater to the
specific requirements of small-medium events taking place within venues and is therefore ideally positioned to take over the existing uShaka technical service.
"Whilst Gearhouse technicians have been successfully operating the animal shows since 2005, the harsh corrosive environment coupled with the increased technical element of the 2007 installation,
meant that more attention needed to be paid to the maintenance and operation of the equipment," said Ross Hatcher, Venue Technical Manager at uShaka.
"The aim is not only to provide flawless shows 7 days a week, but to be pro-active in ensuring the longevity of the equipment, no mean feat when your electronics is situated 300m from the ocean!"
Another venue that keeps the INHOUSE technicians busy at uShaka is the popular dinner theatre aboard the Phantom Ship.
This has grown in stature since it's opening in 2008, and has seen numerous production shows being staged, including
Celebration, Party Police, and Blondes on Deck, as well as Sing it Sista, and Let's Hear It For The Boys (both nominated for a Durban Theatre Award in 2009).
With just a few days to go before the much anticipated Soccer World Cup, uShaka is demonstrating its patriotism with the opening of Born in the RSA, a tribute to great South African music.
Produced by entertainment and events manager Wayne Scott, and directed by Charon Williams-Ros, this upbeat show is sure to be a hit with locals and tourists alike.
One of the aims for the year ahead is to aid uShaka in growing their conferencing and banqueting functions.
With the continued support of IVTM, the partnership is sure to grow from strength to strength
